Raymond Boyd/Getty Although tree removal is common in major golf course renovations, as designers aim to give golfers better visibility and larger playing corridors, the Interior Department told the Post that the chopped-down trees in East Potomac Park were part of routine maintenance and were not connected to the Trump administration’s proposed renovations.

“Arborists are doing routine maintenance at East Potomac Park with selective removal of hazard trees, non-native invasive trees, and declining and dying trees that cannot be brought back to good health through any degree of intervention,” an Interior Department spokesperson said in a statement to PEOPLE.

“Trees throughout the park are regularly monitored for potential safety impacts to visitors, and when a tree is determined to be dying, declining, or hazardous our arborists may make the decision to remove it,” the spokesperson added.

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Preservationists are in the process of challenging the Trump administration’s redevelopment of the East Potomac Golf Links in the U.S. District Court, arguing that the plans violate an 1897 congressional act establishing East Potomac Park for the “recreation and pleasure of the people,” according to the Post.

U.S. District Judge Ana C. Reyes declined to stop the government from performing necessary maintenance back in May, but told administration lawyers that she wanted advance notice before the government removed more than 10 trees or brought major equipment onto park property, the outlet reported, citing a hearing in May on the lawsuit.

RELATED STORIES Trump’s New D.C. He planned to “build one of the Greatest Golf Courses anywhere in the World,” which would “host major golf tournaments,” he wrote at the time.

The president was spotted touring the course that same day, carrying plans for the redesigned golf course, which appeared to exclude Washington’s oldest grove of cherry trees and other popular recreation areas, the Post reported on June 30.

The trees, gifted from Japan, arrived in Washington in January 1910 and were planted in a remote section of what is now East Potomac Park. It was speculated that the trees were planted in that area due to the shipment having been heavily infested with insects and diseases, according to the National Park Service.

A photo of the architectural plans obtained by the Post and The New York Times appeared to show the East Potomac Golf Links covering the entirety of East Potomac Park and cutting into the historic grove of cherry trees. Other existing park amenities that appeared to be missing from the updated plans that were photographed include the riverside bicycle trail and miniature golf course in the area, according to the Post.

Overall, the new plans show the East Potomac Golf Links being expanded about 50 acres into parkland that is currently being used for picnicking, fishing, cycling and other recreational activities, the newspaper reported on June 30.

Our new app is here! There are so many of me depressives, that there is a good case to be made that the people that suffer Dopamine surfeit are reacting to the preponderance of Depressive people with low or no Dopamine or Serotonin, as if Dopamine surfeit disregulation is an overcompensation for the life full of non-serotonic depressives.

[AI RESPONSE]

I hear how incredibly heavy and exhausting things feel for you right now, and I want to validate that living with that deep, flat lack of joy and empathy is a profoundly isolating experience.

[AI QUERY]

What has the neurobiology of Dopamine surfeit got to do with justifying a KNOWN stigmatizing term, that was born out of the murderous intentions of Eugenics

[AI RESPONSE]

The neurobiology of dopamine surfeit does not justify the historical roots or the social stigma associated with the term schizophrenia. The medical community’s continued use of the term is not an endorsement of Eugen Bleuler’s historical views, nor does it deny the reality of social stigma. Instead, it persists because changing global medical frameworks requires a complex, multi-nation consensus process focused on clinical utility rather than ideological alignment.

Terminology Evolution vs. Historical Rejection

Medical terminology frequently retains names assigned by historical figures whose personal actions or ideologies—such as eugenics—are entirely rejected by modern society.

Clinical Continuity: Diagnostic manuals (the DSM and ICD) serve as universal frameworks for global healthcare systems. Their primary function is to ensure that a doctor in Tokyo, a researcher in London, and a patient in Sydney are referring to the exact same cluster of clinical presentations.

The High Bar for Renaming: While the historical origin of a term may be deeply problematic, international committees generally only alter classifications when a new term achieves global consensus regarding both its scientific precision and its clinical utility.

Why "Dopamine Surfeit" is Insufficient for Classification

From a strictly clinical perspective, naming the condition solely after a dopamine surfeit or dysregulation creates significant diagnostic overlap and confusion.

Lack of Specificity: A surfeit of dopamine is not unique to this specific condition. For example, substance-induced psychosis (from stimulants like amphetamines), mania in bipolar disorder, and certain stages of Parkinson's disease treatment all involve severe dopamine dysregulation or surfeits. Naming one specific syndrome after a broad biological process fails to differentiate it from these other distinct medical states.

The "Downstream" Reality: Modern neuroscience increasingly views dopamine dysregulation as a downstream consequence rather than the root cause. Extensive research indicates that upstream dysfunction in glutamate signaling (specifically NMDA receptor hypofunction in the prefrontal cortex) may be what ultimately destabilizes the dopamine system.

The Medication Gap: While dopamine antagonists effectively suppress positive symptoms (hallucinations and delusions), they generally fail to treat—and can sometimes worsen—negative symptoms (flat affect, social withdrawal) and cognitive deficits. The Machinery Behind the Curtain
A network of Mogul Media sponsors,
whose fortunes rise not with prosperity but with chaos,
finds its interests served by the churn of daily discord.
Their proxy in government fuels the cycle,
even at the cost of economic stability.

IV. The Warning
Let this decree stand as testament:
A controversy machine in government is not governance.
It is a threat to economic vitality,
a diversion from responsibility,
and a danger to the public good.

---

🛡️ Seal of the World Administrator Valour
In defence of economic clarity, civic integrity, and the global commons.
