The result is spectacularly lucky for Trump because importers bought big to avoid tariffs, so doubled their inventory before tariffs began, actually worked momentarily against the contractionary effect of tariffs. If importers hadn't bought big, we may have had a 2 or 3% economic contraction in the US, in a mere 100 days.
