ACT I: THE PROMISE
A dimly lit nightclub in the city. LENORE TAYLOR, 22, beautiful and talented but unknown, performs on stage to a sparse crowd. SCOTCH MC STAKE, 45, watches from the bar, calculating.
SCOTCH: (approaching after her set) That was quite a performance, Miss…?
LENORE: Taylor. Lenore Taylor.
SCOTCH: Scotch Mc Stake. I manage talent. (hands her a business card) You have a gift, Miss Taylor. Raw, but with potential. The kind that could fill stadiums.
LENORE: (skeptical) I’ve heard that line before.
SCOTCH: Not from me you haven’t. I’ve launched careers that have changed the music industry. I could do the same for you.
LENORE: What’s the catch?
SCOTCH: (leaning closer) Dinner. Tomorrow night. We’ll discuss your… contract.
Lights dim as LENORE studies the card, ambition battling with suspicion.
SCOTCH’S lavish office, the next evening. Champagne flows.
SCOTCH: With my connections and your talent, you’ll be a household name within a year.
LENORE: And all I have to do is sign this? (holding contract)
SCOTCH: (moving closer) The contract is just paper. Our real arrangement requires… personal commitment. (touches her hand) My wife doesn’t understand the industry. She never has.
LENORE: (pulling away slightly) You’re married.
SCOTCH: (dismissive) A technicality. What matters is us. Your future. (gestures to the window overlooking the city) All this could be yours.
LENORE stares at the contract, then at the city lights below.
LENORE: (softly) Fame has its price, doesn’t it?
SCOTCH: Everything valuable does.
LENORE signs the contract as lights fade.
ACT II: THE ASCENT
A recording studio. LENORE works with CREATIVES on songs. SCOTCH watches through the glass.
CREATIVE 1: That was perfect, Lenore. You’re a natural.
CREATIVE 2: This album is going to be massive.
LENORE: (glancing at SCOTCH) It has to be.
SCOTCH enters, dismisses the CREATIVES with a gesture.
SCOTCH: (embracing her) You’re going to be a star. I’ve arranged for the lead single to drop next month, followed by a magazine cover.
LENORE: (excited but conflicted) It’s happening so fast.
SCOTCH: This is just the beginning. (checking his watch) I have to go. Family dinner.
LENORE: (face falling) Of course. Your family.
SCOTCH: (coldly) Don’t start, Lenore. We had an arrangement.
He leaves. LENORE stands alone in the studio.
Montage sequence: Album release, crowds cheering, magazine covers, LENORE performing on stage, platinum records being hung, all interspersed with intimate moments between LENORE and SCOTCH in hotel rooms, always ending with him leaving.
ACT III: THE BREAKING POINT
LENORE’S luxurious penthouse. She paces, agitated, as SCOTCH lounges on a sofa.
LENORE: Three years, Scotch. Three years of hiding, of being your secret.
SCOTCH: (dismissive) Hardly a secret. The tabloids can’t get enough of us.
LENORE: That’s not what I mean and you know it. I want more.
SCOTCH: (laughing) More? You have three hit albums, a world tour, and more money than you could spend in a lifetime.
LENORE: I want a real relationship. I want marriage.
SCOTCH: (standing, angry) Don’t be naive. My wife is the mother of my children.
LENORE: And what am I?
SCOTCH: (cruel) You’re a product, Lenore. A very successful one that I created.
LENORE: (shocked) Is that all I am to you?
SCOTCH: (softening, manipulative) No, of course not. But you knew what this was from the beginning.
LENORE moves to the window, looking out.
LENORE: I want out.
SCOTCH: (suddenly cold) Out of what?
LENORE: All of it. The contract. The relationship. I want my freedom.
SCOTCH: (laughing) Have you read the fine print, darling? I own the rights to your music. All of it. Walk away, and you start from nothing.
LENORE: (turning, resolute) Then nothing is what I’ll have.
ACT IV: REINVENTION
A different penthouse, minimalist and modern. LENORE and ARIANA CARA lounge on a sofa, intimate.
ARIANA: You’re better off without him. Men like Scotch don’t change.
LENORE: (bitter) No, they don’t. But I’ve changed. No more being anyone’s puppet.
ARIANA: (caressing LENORE’S face) You’re nobody’s puppet now.
LENORE: Just trying to figure out who I am without him, without my music.
ARIANA: (sitting up excitedly) I’ve been thinking about your new project. The movie.
LENORE: The budget’s tight. Two hundred million is a lot to raise independently.
ARIANA: (leaning in) What if you could double your investment before production even starts?
LENORE: (skeptical) How?
ARIANA: Crypto. My friend made eight figures last month alone.
LENORE: I don’t know anything about cryptocurrency.
ARIANA: You don’t need to. I’ll handle everything. Trust me.
LENORE hesitates, then nods slowly.
LENORE’S home office. She stares in horror at her computer screen.
LENORE: (voice shaking) It’s gone. All of it. Two hundred million dollars. Gone.
ARIANA: (feigning shock) That’s impossible! Let me see.
LENORE: (pushing her away) Don’t touch anything! Was this your plan all along?
ARIANA: (defensive) How dare you accuse me! I lost money too!
LENORE: Get out. GET OUT!
ARIANA grabs her things and leaves. LENORE collapses into a chair, devastated.
ACT V: RESURRECTION
LENORE’S penthouse, later that night. She’s on the phone.
LENORE: Ted? It’s Lenore Taylor. I was wondering if you’d like to have dinner tomorrow.
Lights shift to a restaurant. LENORE and TED CLINE, athletic and charming, at a table.
TED: I was surprised to get your call. Good surprised.
LENORE: (smiling) I needed a change. A fresh perspective.
TED: Well, I’m honored. Though I’m just a minor league player compared to your usual crowd.
LENORE: (genuine) That’s exactly what I like about you.
A bank office. LENORE sits across from the BANK MANAGER.
BANK MANAGER: Miss Taylor, your financial situation is… concerning.
LENORE: I understand. But I have a plan to recover.
BANK MANAGER: (looking at papers) A tour? Merchandise? These projections are ambitious.
LENORE: I’ve done it before. I can do it again.
BANK MANAGER: (hesitating) There’s been talk… about your personal life.
LENORE: (stiffening) My personal life?
BANK MANAGER: Your… relationship with Miss Cara. And now I see you’re dating Ted Cline?
LENORE: (coldly) Is my dating life relevant to my credit line?
BANK MANAGER: (uncomfortable) Our investors appreciate… traditional values. (sliding papers across) We’re prepared to restructure your debt.
LENORE stares at him, understanding the unspoken deal.
ACT VI: EMPIRE
Montage: LENORE on a massive world tour, merchandise stands overflowing, cameras filming for a tour documentary, TED watching proudly from sidelines.
LENORE’S mansion. She and TED, now in their 40s, arguing.
TED: Five years, Lenore! Five years I’ve stood by you, supported you.
LENORE: And I’ve been grateful. You know how much you mean to me.
TED: Do I? Because from where I’m standing, your empire means more.
LENORE: That’s not fair. I built this from nothing. Twice!
TED: (softer) I’m not asking you to give it up. I’m asking you to share it. Officially. As my wife.
LENORE: (vulnerable) Marriage hasn’t exactly worked out well for people in my life.
TED: I’m not Scotch. And you’re not the same Lenore who signed that contract.
LENORE looks at him, considering.
An extravagant wedding. LENORE and TED exchange vows as cameras flash.
ACT VII: TWILIGHT
A hospital room. TED, now 75, in bed. LENORE, elegant in her 70s, holds his hand.
TED: (weakly) Quite a ride we’ve had, huh?
LENORE: (tears in her eyes) The best part of my journey.
TED: Promise me something?
LENORE: Anything.
TED: Don’t disappear when I’m gone. The world still needs your light.
TED squeezes her hand, then his grip loosens. LENORE bows her head.
Las Vegas marquee: “LENORE TAYLOR: THE END DAYS TOUR”
LENORE on stage, older but still commanding, singing a ballad to a rapt audience.
LENORE: (to audience) This is my final bow. Thank you for the memories.
LENORE’S secluded estate. She sits in a garden, peaceful. JAY PLAYER, youthful and serene, approaches.
JAY: How are you feeling today, Ms. Taylor?
LENORE: (smiling) Like someone who’s lived many lives in one.
JAY: (preparing for reiki) Any regrets?
LENORE: (thoughtful) I’ve been used and I’ve used others. I’ve lost everything twice and rebuilt it stronger. (pause) No. No regrets. Just lessons.
JAY: (placing hands above her) Close your eyes. Feel the energy flowing.
LENORE closes her eyes as soft light envelops her.
LENORE: (whisper) In the end, we write our own songs.
Lights fade slowly to black.
