Herzi Halevi is the former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) who oversaw the initial 17 months of Israel's military campaign in Gaza

  • Casualty Figures Acknowledgment: After his resignation, in September 2025, Halevi publicly admitted that more than 200,000 Palestinians in Gaza had been killed or injured in the war, which is over 10% of Gaza's population. This figure is consistent with estimates from the Palestinian Health Ministry, which had previously been dismissed by Israeli authorities.
